ABOUT ISM

WHAT IS ISM?
ISM, or Independent Study and Mentorship, is a class offered to juniors and seniors at all high schools within the Frisco Independent School District. Within the class, students choose a topic of interest and they do extensive research about their specific topic. In addition to researching, students are asked to search for a mentor to further solidify their knowledge and interest on their topic through firsthand experience. As students search for mentors, they sharpen their public speaking, networking, and professionalism skills in the class. These skills are developed by creating resumés, delivering speeches, and participating in real work environments. Being a part of this program requires going through a rigorous application as students have to complete both the written and interview sections of the application to be considered. Overall, the more time and effort that students put into ISM, the more opportunities the ISM program will have to offer for students in their future endeavors.
